Tiffany Monroe is gaining widespread attention and going viral for all the right reasons. As the Chief People & Culture Officer at the renowned tax preparation company H&R Block — and a proud graduate of Pepperdine Law — she showcased remarkable pop culture awareness, a profound understanding of human behavior, and an effective approach to newsjacking. On Tuesday, the entire internet — or rather, the whole nation — buzzed with excitement over the engagement announcement of music supernova Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
The engagement news was revealed in an incredibly millennial fashion, through a joint Instagram post, right during the peak of the workday. Consequently, *millions* of people (myself included) found it nearly impossible to concentrate on work as we speculated and exchanged theories in our group chats about the alluring details of what could be dubbed America’s royal wedding.
Monroe recognized this cultural moment. So, she took a bold and progressive step by giving everyone the afternoon off. “Go home. Celebrate love. Speculate about the dress. Argue whether the reception will be held in KC or a castle in Europe.” This approach was not only perfect but also precisely what a major company’s Culture Officer should advocate for during such an exciting event.
What elevates this move to an exceptional level is how Monroe seamlessly connected it back to H&R Block’s business model. She concluded her message with the insightful note, “Congratulations to all of you for being part of the only company that understands that life changes = tax changes.” This remark was undeniably brilliant. It was further highlighted on H&R Block’s TikTok, showcasing the company’s innovative culture and commitment to its employees.
