In this fast-paced environment, it can be challenging to discern what truly matters amidst the noise.

The phenomenon of tweets exacerbates this chaos. They come and go in a flurry, capturing attention momentarily before dissipating into the vast expanse of the twittersphere. Each message is often laden with emotion and controversy, drawing reactions from supporters and detractors alike.

This week, take a moment to pause and reflect on some of former President Trump’s most memorable tweets, which encapsulate his unique style and the fervor of his political messaging.

For example, on January 29, 2024 — during the early stages of the 2024 presidential campaign — Trump boldly declared that he deserved credit for the surge in stock prices. He tweeted, “THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST JOE BIDEN ARE SO GOOD THAT INVESTORS ARE PROJECTING THAT I WILL WIN, AND THAT WILL DRIVE THE MARKET UP . . . .” This statement illustrates his confidence and how he leveraged his popularity to influence market perceptions.

However, it’s important to remember that mere months later, on April 30, 2025 — just 15 months after his initial tweet and a few months into his presidency — the stock market experienced significant turbulence. When faced with this downturn, Trump deflected accountability, tweeting, “This is Biden’s Stock Market, not Trump’s. I didn’t take over until January 20th . . . . [W]We have to get rid of the Biden ‘Overhang.’”

It’s crucial to note two key observations here. First, the use of random capitalization is a hallmark of Trump’s communication style, not an oversight on my part. My education instilled in me a sense of proper grammar and capitalization. Secondly, Trump has a pattern of claiming credit for successes while evading blame for failures. These contradictory tweets exemplify his unique approach to messaging, showcasing his characteristic bravado.

What deeper insights can we glean from Trump’s tweets (or, more recently, his “truths”)?

Throughout his campaign, Trump frequently asserted that he would resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine on his first day in office. While this promise was undoubtedly optimistic — a sentiment he later acknowledged — it sparked curiosity about how he envisioned navigating such a complex global issue.

On April 24 of this year, Trump shared his proposed strategy, tweeting, “Vladimir, STOP!” This succinct command left many wondering about the effectiveness of such a straightforward approach to diplomatic negotiations. If only diplomacy were as simple as issuing a directive!

I’m only beginning to scratch the surface. During his first term, Trump controversially tweeted, “How low has President Obama gone to tapp [sic, of course] my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” This claim was widely criticized, with the FBI stating at the time that there was no evidence to support his accusations.

But perhaps I’m mistaken. So, I challenge you, Trump: direct the FBI to investigate this matter further. Look into Obama’s alleged wiretaps, gather evidence to substantiate your claims, and hold those responsible accountable.

That seems unlikely.

Most recently, the tweet that inspired this reflection was Trump’s message on Memorial Day. There exists a federal law, 36 U.S.C. Section 116, which urges the president to issue a proclamation each Memorial Day, calling for the nation to unite in prayer for lasting peace. Here’s how the current president fulfilled his obligation this year:

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION [sic, of course] PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE, THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDER, AND RAPE AGAIN — ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY . . . .

In this context, it begs the question: Did anyone ever sacrifice their lives in defense of this country and now deserve a moment of solemn tribute?

By now, I should be accustomed to this behavior. Trump consistently uses significant holidays — such as Christmas, Easter, and Memorial Day — not as opportunities to reflect on religious or historical significance but rather as platforms to sow division, often employing all caps to amplify his message.

Trump relishes the influence he wields through social media, boasting about the vast number of people he can reach with his statements. Rumors suggest that he personally crafts many of his tweets, emphasizing the personal touch behind his controversial messaging. The content of these tweets undeniably raises questions about his intentions and the implications of his communication style. Ultimately, it’s up to you to draw your own conclusions.

Are you proud of having cast your vote for this individual?

Mark Herrmann has a wealth of experience, having spent 17 years as a partner at a prestigious international law firm.
